The viennacontemporary, which takes place annually in the Austrian capital, is a reflection of the flourishing Viennese art scene. It attracts artists, collectors, and art lovers from all over the world. The fair showcases works by emerging and established artists and offers a platform for innovative forms of expression in various media. Paintings, sculptures, installations, and digital art reflect the dynamism of contemporary art.
The fair offers an extensive supporting program with exciting panel discussions, artist talks, and interactive workshops.

The art fair viennacontemporary was established in 2015 as the successor to the Viennafair. It provides a platform for contemporary art with a particular emphasis on artists and galleries from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. The fair offers specialized programs for collectors, including exclusive previews, private tours, and networking events.

In 2024 the different sections of the fair are dedicated to “Energy” (VCT-Statement) and emerging talents with a connection to Austria (ZONE 1). The section “Context” will focus on Central and Eastern Europe.

Getting to viennacontemporary from abroad is relatively straightforward due to Vienna’s well-connected transport infrastructure. Most international visitors will arrive at Vienna International Airport (Flughafen Wien-Schwechat), which is about 18 kilometers southeast of the city center.

From the airport, you can take the City Airport Train (CAT) directly to Wien Mitte station in the city center, a journey that takes around 16 minutes. Alternatively, the S-Bahn (suburban train) S7 line offers a slightly longer but more economical option.

Where to stay?

For accommodation, Vienna offers a wide range of options to suit various budgets and preferences.

Luxury seekers might opt for iconic hotels such as the Hotel Sacher or the Ritz-Carlton, both offering top-notch service.

For a more boutique experience, the Hotel Altstadt Vienna, known for its artistic ambiance and individually decorated rooms, is a fantastic choice. Budget-conscious travelers can find comfort in well-rated hostels and budget hotels like the Meininger Hotel Wien Downtown Franz ( yes, the name is quite a mouthful! ). Additionally, there are numerous mid-range hotels and Airbnb options scattered throughout the city, providing convenient access to public transportation and major attractions.

Staying in districts such as the Innere Stadt (First District) or the trendy neighborhoods of Neubau and Mariahilf ensures you are close to cultural sites, dining, and nightlife, making your visit to Viennacontemporary both enjoyable and convenient.

Exploring Vienna

Vienna, often called the City of Music, is a haven for classical music enthusiasts. A visit to the Musikverein, home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, promises an unforgettable evening of symphonic splendor. The Vienna State Opera presents world-class performances in a setting of elegance.

Strolling through the narrow streets of the Innere Stadt, the heart of Vienna, one can encounter historical landmarks such as St. Stephen’s Cathedral, whose Gothic spires dominate the skyline, and the Hofburg Palace, a majestic complex that narrates centuries of Habsburg history.

Beyond its musical heritage, Vienna captivates with its art and architecture. The Belvedere Palace, with its extensive gardens and baroque architecture, houses an impressive collection of Austrian art, including the works of Gustav Klimt. The MuseumsQuartier, one of the largest cultural districts in the world, is a vibrant hub where contemporary and classical art meet. Here you will find the Leopold Museum and the Museum of Modern Art (MUMOK).
